Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that forward Brandon Alderson has been assigned by the Flyers from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL to Reading. The Royals also: (i) released three players (forwards Tyler Gjurich and Stephen Tellier and defenseman Clinton Atkinson) from their respective Tryout Agreements with the team; (ii) placed defenseman Mike Marcou on team suspension; and (iii) asserted a successful waiver claim with respect to forward Riley Armstrong.
The Royals' current training camp roster currently stands at twenty-three players (thirteen forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders). A current PDF version of the team's TCR is attached to this release. A Statistical Format Bio for Alderson follows at the end of this release.
This will also be the second stint in Reading for Alderson (6'4/216) (23), a third year pro from Oakville, Ontario. Last year, Alderson, who is playing under an NHL entry level contract, split his season between the Lehigh Valley and Reading. He was twice assigned to the Royals and ended up playing thirty-five games for Reading, recording fifteen points (7g-8a) and 40 penalty minutes. He also played thirty-five games with the Phantoms and recorded seven points (3g-4a) and 57 penalty minutes in the AHL. Alderson concluded last season by playing five post-season games for Reading. He scored the Royals' second goal in the team's 4-2 win in Game Two of the East Division Semi-Final matchup against the South Carolina Stingrays.
In 150 regular season pro games over the past two seasons, 115 of which have been played in the AHL, Alderson has forty-five points (24g-21a) and 141 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Alderson played 267 games in the Ontario Hockey League (69g-88a=157, 238 pims). In his overage season, 2012-13, he led the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with twenty-eight goals in sixty-seven major junior games.
The Fifteenth Anniversary Season of Royals' hockey kicks off with back-to-back games against the South Carolina Stingrays at North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday (October 17) and Sunday (October 18). Reading opens the home portion of the team's schedule on Saturday, October 24, (7:00 pm) when the Elmira Jackals visit Santander Arena. The home opener will be preceded by a Block Party complete with a FREE concert by the Gin Blossoms. Season Tickets for the 2015-16 Reading Royals ECHL season are currently available.
