
Forney Shakes up Roster for Opening Day

Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced the following transactions prior to today's American Association Opening Day roster deadline.
Right-handed pitcher Chase Johnson has been signed to a contract for the 2014 season. Starting pitchers Matt Jackson and Nick Hernandez have been placed on the inactive list. They will be activated for their first starts of the season on May 18 and 19 respectively.
Infielder Amos Ramon and rookie right-handed pitcher David Hatt have been released. Right-handed pitcher Christian Garcia has been placed on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting his release. Johnson, 26, posted 13 saves with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks last season before being traded to the Grand Prairie AirHogs last season. Between the two stops, he went 1-1 with a 3.64 ERA and 13 saves. The product of Scottsdale, Ariz. played with the Amarillo Sox in 2012, making 11 saves with a 3.66 ERA in 44 games. He was drafted by the Phildelphia Phillies in the 21st round of the 2009 MLB amateur draft and played three seasons in their system.
Ramon, 30, played in 179 games with the Goldeyes over four seasons (2006, 2011-2013). He was selected the 2012 American Association Playoff MVP when the Goldeyes won the championship.
The Goldeyes' active roster sits at 21 players, including 11 pitchers and 10 position players.
Winnipeg begins the 2014 American Association season on the road against the Amarillo Sox on Thursday. After a 10-game road trip, the Goldeyes will open the home portion of their schedule May 26 against the Sioux City Explorers.
