SIOUX FALLS-Breakfast, fireworks, baseball and dogs are all part of opening weekend for the Sioux Falls Canaries at the Birdcage. The Birds open the 2014 regular season this Thursday against the Sioux City Explorers and continue the series with home games Friday and Sunday.
The fun begins Thursday morning as the Canaries host "Breakfast at the Birdcage" from 7 to 9 AM inside the suites at Sioux Falls Stadium. Fans can enjoy a free breakfast while having the chance to meet manager Steve Shirley and get autographs from Canaries players. In addition, fans can register for a chance to win a suite or a pack of tickets to opening weekend as well as take a crack a hitting a ball out of the ballpark and the Canaries Pro Shop will be open for fans to get a first look at some of the new Canaries ball caps and merchandise for the season.
Thursday night, the Birds open regular season play when they host the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 PM. The first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a free Canaries magnet schedule, compliments of First Premier Bank. The series continues Friday night at 7:05 PM for Friday Night Fireworks. Be sure to stay in your seats after the game and enjoy the best fireworks show in the Sioux Empire, courtesy of All-Star Fireworks, Orthopedic Institute and Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. Fans will also be entertained with music from the famous Cartwright Brothers. The Cartwright Brothers will play before Thursday and Friday's game as well as after Fireworks on Friday night.
The series will shift Saturday night to Sioux City before returning to the Birdcage on Sunday late afternoon for a 4:05 PM scheduled first pitch. It is also the first "Bark in the Park" of the season. Bring your dog to the game and cheer on the Canaries to victory. Dog tickets are just $5 each and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit displaced animals in the Sioux Empire. After the game, humans young and old can run the bases and get autographs from the entire Canaries team!
The Birds will then open a two-game homestand, Monday and Tuesday, versus Gary SouthShore. For a complete list of daily promotions this season, click here .
Once again this season, fans coming out to Canaries' games can enjoy tasty concessions provided by Ovations Food Services. In addition to traditional favorites, there will be new menu items like Papa John's Pizza and the return of some favorites like the Loaded Potato Curveball, which is a deep-fried loaded baked potato on a stick. On Friday and Saturday home games, Ovations Food Services will feature Smoked Prime Rib, Smoked Hot Dogs, and brisket!
