BURLINGTON, VT --- Former Vermont Expos pitcher Kenny Beck '02 will be at historic Centennial Field this Friday and Saturday during the Lake Monster games against the Lowell Spinners to sign autographs and copies of his book "What Day Is Today", the team announced today.

The 370-page paperback book published by Write Words, Inc. in May 2007 is Beck's memoirs of the season that he spent with the Vermont Expos during the summer of 2002. He appeared in 14 games for the Expos, going 0-0 with one save and a 5.29 ERA. He allowed 17 runs (10 earned) on 28 hits with seven walks and 14 strikeouts over 17.0 innings.

At amazon.com, here is the book description and editoral review of "What Day Is Today":

"What I'm about to tell you isn't a typical baseball story. I don't limp off the bench and hit a game-winning home-run in the World Series. I didn't throw a perfect game in my last ever start, nor do I mentor some bonus-baby with a million-dollar arm and two-cent head so he can mature and make it to the big leagues. And I promise you that I don't end up playing catch with my dad in an Iowa cornfield at the end of this either. " So begins Kenny Beck's tale as he lives the dream of so many young boys- the dream of playing professional baseball. Even though his was a short-lived pro career, it taught Kenny a great deal about the game and about life. What Day Is Today? is a baseball book for anyone who's ever picked up a bat, ball, or glove, and wondered what it is like to play professional baseball.

Beck, who now lives in Maryland, will throw out the first pitch before Friday's game and will be available to sign copies of his book during the games both Friday and Saturday.

The Lake Monsters are hosting the Spinners, the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, at Centennial for three games Thursday-Saturday. Game time is 7:05 p.m. each night.
