Trois-Rivieres Lions News Release
The Trois-Rivières Lions (affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) announced the signing of Kale McCallum on Thursday, adding him to their defensive corps for the final stretch of the season.
A native of Fredericton, New Brunswick, the left-shot defenceman made his mark in the QMJHL with the Saint John Sea Dogs and the Val-d'Or Foreurs. McCallum led all defencemen in assists (50) during the 2020-2021 season with the Quebec-based club. In total, he recorded 127 points in 184 games.
The New Brunswick native then chose to continue his career at the university level in his home province with the University of New Brunswick, competing in the AUS conference of U SPORTS. Over three seasons, McCallum tallied 89 points in 67 games for an impressive average of 1.33 points per game, while posting a +72 rating. His team captured the division title in each of his seasons and won the Canadian championship twice.
He also earned numerous individual honours during his university career. Notably, he was named U SPORTS Defenceman of the Year after leading all defencemen in the league with 42 points in the 2023-2024 season. The following year, the Canadian was selected to the U SPORTS First All-Star Team, while also leading all defencemen in goals with 13.
This season, McCallum played with Providence College, where he registered 14 points in 31 games. His team also finished first in the regular season standings in the NCAA's Hockey East conference.
The Lions will return to Colisée Vidéotron over Easter weekend to face the Maine Mariners (Boston Bruins affiliate) three times. The first game will take place Friday at 7 p.m.
The Saturday, April 4 game at 3 p.m. will be the NASCAR Canada Game, presented by the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. A tailgate party and an autograph session featuring seven drivers, including defending champion Marc-Antoine Camirand, are scheduled for the day.
