
Former Stingrays Forward Travis Morin Wins AHL's President's Award

North Charleston, S.C. - Former South Carolina Stingrays forward Travis Morin claimed the American Hockey League's (AHL) President's Award for outstanding accomplishments during the 2013-14 season. The award was presented to Travis last night at the Board of Governor's Annual Meeting in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Morin, pictured with former Stingrays broadcaster and President Darren Abbott (left), led the AHL in scoring during the regular season and in the Calder Cup Playoffs and became the second player in league history to earn regular-season and postseason M.V.P. honors in the same campaign. A member of the Texas Stars since their inaugural season (2009-10), Morin netted a career-high 32 goals and 88 points, doubling his output from the previous year. In the playoffs, he registered 22 points including three game-winning goals, two in overtime in the Finals. His strong played earned him a four-game promotion to the National Hockey League's (NHL) Dallas Stars, recording an assist, his first NHL point.
A native of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Morin skated with the Stingrays from 2007-2009, helped the organization capture its third Kelly Cup championship in 2009 and added 175 points over 147 games. During the 2007-08 season, Morin finished second in ECHL rookie scoring and in 2008-09, led the league with 62 assists.
Abbott is preparing for his fifth season as the President and Governor of the Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the two-time Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings. The Canton, New York, native served as the Stingrays' team president from 2006-2010, picking up the ECHL Executive of the Year award in 2007-08. Prior to being named President, Abbott served as the Director of Public Relations and Broadcasting for the Stingrays for seven seasons adding the ECHL Broadcaster of the Year award in 2002-03 and ECHL Public Relations Award in 1999-00 and 2000-01.
