Former NHLer Brathwaite Joins Wolves

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned former National Hockey League goaltender FRED BRATHWAITE (BRAYTH-wayt) to the Chicago Wolves.

The 33-year-old netminder posted a 1-1-0 record with a 4.29 GAA in two preseason games with the Thrashers. He did not play in Atlanta's regular-season opener on Thursday.

BRATHWAITE has appeared in 254 NHL games, recording an 81-99-37 record, 15 shutouts and a 2.73 goals-against average with the Edmonton Oilers (1993-1996), Calgary Flames (1998-2001), St. Louis Blues (2001-2003) and Columbus Blue Jackets (2003-04). He accrued an NHL career-best 25 wins and 61 appearances with Calgary in 1999-2000.

The Ottawa, Ontario, native spent the last two seasons with Ak-Bars Kazan of the Russian Super League, which includes recording a 2.12 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in 32 outings last year. He led the league with a 1.54 goals-against average in 11 postseason tilts last year.

Overall, BRATHWAITE has appeared 147 combined American Hockey League and International Hockey League matchups over parts of six seasons with Cape Breton (1993-94, 1995-96) Manitoba (1996-1998) Saint John (1999-2000) and Syracuse (2003-04), posting a 60-59-10 mark and four shutouts.

He has also represented Canada in international competition as a member of the National Team in 1998-99 and in the 2000 and 2001 World Championships.
