Albany Devils News Release

Lowell, MA - Opening Night is in the books, with the Lowell Devils suffering a 5-3 setback to the Albany River Rats at the Tsongas Arena on Saturday night.

The home team opened the scoring, as veteran defenseman Dan McGillis scored the first goal in Lowell Devils history at 6:19 of the opening frame. The puck from the game will be sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto for their archives. Albany tied the game with less than three minutes remaining in the first.

The clubs exchanged second period tallies as well, this time with the Rats taking the lead on a Ben Guite goal at 10:22. Just over four minutes later, Nicklas Bergfors potted his first of the season to knot the score again. The score remained tied after 40 minutes, and shots were all even at 17 apiece.

Lowell pushed back in front early in the third. Rookie Patrick Davis lit the lamp for the first goal of his professional career at 3:04. But Albany took over after that, scoring three straight goals to take the victory. David Gove, Guite, and Brad Isbister finished off the scoring for the River Rats.

On Sunday the 15th, they host the Worcester Sharks at 4:05 p.m. There will be a complimentary skate for all in attendance after each Sunday home game of the 2006-07 season.
