Sens open season with 4-1 win over Crunch

Binghamton Senators News Release


BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators opened their season with a 4-1victory over Syracuse on Saturday night, before a crowd of 4,549 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The Senators were led by goalie Kelly Guard, who turned away 25 of 26 shots. Guard was the first star of the game.

Left wing Arttu Luttinen paced the Senators offense. With the Senators leading 2-1 in the third period, Luttinen scored the game-clinching goal at the 10:13 mark. Danny Bois assisted on the goal. Luttinen collected an assist on Jeff Heerema's first period goal.

The offense was also sparked by Bobby Robins, who scored one goal and assisted on another. Robins scored at the 8:28 mark of the second period to give the Senators the lead for good.

It did not take long Binghamton to get on the scoreboard on Saturday night. Jeff Heerema found the net at the 2:39 mark to give the Senators the early lead. Right Wing Ryan Vesce and Luttinen both assisted on Heerema's goal.

Syracuse answered back as left wing Darcy Verot netted his first goal of the season at 14:29 of the first period. Assisting on the play were defenseman Andy Canzanello and right wing Steve Goertzen.

Center Grant Potulny scored the Sentors final goal of the night, sealing the season opening win for Binghamton. Bobby Robins assisted on the Potulny goal.

Ticket packages and individual tickets can be purchased at the Sens' front office on the third floor of the Arena. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 722-SENS.
