Massachusetts Pirates News Release
WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates have announced that former National Arena League quarterback Sean Brackett has joined the team as the Assistant Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach.
Brackett leaves the playing field holding 19 Massachusetts' All-Time records including 6,011 passing yards, 137 touchdown passes and a completion percentage of 61.2. He appeared in 37 games for the Pirates and posted a record of 19 and 10 as a starter for a winning percentage of .655. Brackett also holds seven playoff and 13 single game marks including eight touchdown passes and 28 completions. Twice he completed 84 percent of his passes in a game and had an efficiency rating of 158.33.
It seems only fitting that his last pass as a Pirate was a 29-yard touchdown pass to Juston Christian in a 44-19 playoff victory over the Bismarck Bucks in the first round of the 2021 Indoor Football League playoffs.
The North Providence, RI native burst onto the scene in 2018 with the Pirates, winning the National Arena League Most Valuable Player award while leading the league in four offensive categories, guiding the team to a regular season first place finish with an 11-5 record.
That season Brackett completed 259 of 419 passes (61.8 %) for 3,170 yards, 74 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He also ran 25 times for 111 yards and scored four touchdowns. He had a pair of two point conversions, including one that sealed an overtime win over the Maine Mammoths.
Despite missing almost three games due to a Canadian Football League tryout and a season ending leg injury, Brackett, was a second team All-NAL offensive selection that season and led the league in total offense with 234.4 yards per game, 7.4 yards per play, 226.4 passing yards per game and 7.6 yards per passing attempt.
In 2019 Brackett led the league in plays (436), pass attempts (396) and completions (244). Brackett also led the NAL with 12 rushing touchdowns. He was also second in six categories including 2,657 offensive yards, 2,523 passing yards, 57 touchdown passes, 69 total offensive touchdowns, a 61.6 completion percentage and a 105.5 pass efficiency rating. That season he joined the NAL-All League second team for the second straight year.
A former Ivy Leaguer at Columbia, Brackett was a four year starter and an All-Ivy first team selection in 2010. After college Brackett had stops in the Arena Football League with Las Vegas, Jacksonville and Washington and he played a six game season in China with the Qingdao Clipper of the China Arena Football League.
