
Former Honker Campbell to Compete on College Home Run Derby

(Rochester, Minn.)-- Jeff Campbell (North Dakota), who spent the summers of 2013 and 2014 as a member of the Rochester Honkers, has been named to the sixth annual TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Nebraska, on July 2nd. The Derby will be held at the site of the College World Series, TD Ameritrade Park, and will be aired on ESPN.
Campbell and was named a NWL All-Star in 2014 along with competing in the NWL Home Run Derby. He batted .254 in his two years with the Honkers, and totaled 10 homeruns with 60 RBIs. He also spent some time as a relief pitcher for Rochester, compiling a 2-1 record with a 2.58 ERA in 2014.
Campbell's opponents in the Derby currently include Eric Gutierrez (Texas Tech), Colton Shaver (BYU) and Will Craig (Wake Forest).
Campbell just finished up an outstanding career at North Dakota, where he started every game he played in from 2012 to 2015. This season, he batted .365 with 11 home runs. For his collegiate career, Campbell has a .303 average, 162 RBIs and 32 homeruns. He was the first UND player to hit for the cycle in the Division 1 era and was an All-Western Athletic Conference selection in 2015.
The Honkers will be back at home on Tuesday, June 30th, to face the Waterloo Bucks at 12:05 p.m. at Mayo Field. It will be Kid's 3 Buck Day, presented by Perkins, where all kids 12 and under can get into the game for just three dollars. It will be the first game of a split double header. The second game will be in Waterloo at 7:05 that night. These will be the first two games in the Honkers' and Bucks' competition for the Scheel's Highway 63 Cup this season. The Cup is awarded to the winner of the season series between Rochester and Waterloo.
