Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs swept the Battle Creek Bombers in a pair of seven-inning games at Joannes Stadium on June 25.

The Bullfrogs defeated the Bombers 4-0 in the first game and 3-1 in the second contest to improve to 17-12 on the year, two games behind Kenosha in the Northwoods League South Division.

Game 1

The Bullfrogs defeated Battle Creek 4-0 in the first game of the doubleheader. Starting pitcher Alex Martinez was sensational for Green Bay in the win. He threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits, a walk and struck out three batters.

In addition to the pitching dominance of Martinez, the Bullfrogs' defense helped him out as well. Whenever the Bombers had something going offensively, the Bullfrogs made a play to end the threat. Martinez faced the minimum number of batters through four innings, and the two base runners Battle Creek put aboard were thrown out at second base trying to steal by Desi Ammons.

For the second game in a row, a Bullfrogs' catcher caught two runners stealing. Franco Guardascione threw out a pair of base runners in Wednesday night's win against the Lakeshore Chinooks.

Martinez was benefitted by his defense again in the top of the fifth. Battle Creek had runners on first and second with one out. With a 3-0 count, Ryan Budnick grounded into a double play to third base to end the threat.

Martinez improved to 2-1 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 2.25.

Andrew Mitchell picked up the loss for the Bombers. He pitched two innings and gave up three runs on three hits and a walk.

The Bullfrogs scored first with three runs in the bottom of the second. Ryan Donovan led off with a hit-by-pitch, followed an infield hit for Mikey Duarte. An error by Mitchell put runners at second and third, and Matthew De La Rosa recorded a RBI with a groundout to second base.

Two batters later, Paul Jacobson hit a line-drive double down the leftfield line to score Duarte. Jacobson stole third and scored on a RBI single for Logan Taylor to give Green Bay a 3-0 lead.

Mitchell surpassed the 35-pitch inning limit in the second, so the Bombers were forced to turn to their bullpen early.

Green Bay added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a RBI double for Donovan to score Danny Rosenbaum and give the Bullfrogs a 4-0 lead.

Jeremy Graf pitched a scoreless seventh to lock down the win for Green Bay.

Game 2

The Bullfrogs used another solid pitching performance in the second game in a 3-1 victory, limiting the Bombers to just three hits.

Tommy Strunc made his first start of the season and did not allow a hit in three innings of work. Connor Donovan earned the win with three scoreless innings and five strikeouts.

The Bombers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with an unearned run. Hank Trulock was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a walk. He scored two batters later with an error by Rosenbaum.

Green Bay took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Franco Guardascione singled, and Jack Strunc was hit by a pitch. Ty Blankmeyer singled to center, and an error by Dan Swain allowed Guardascione to score.

With runners at the corners and Robb Paller at the plate, Taylor broke for second. Bombers' catcher Spencer Hemphill faked a throw to second and tossed the ball over the head of Michael Sanderson at third base that allowed Blankmeyer to score from third and give the Bullfrogs a 2-1 lead.

Green Bay scored again in the sixth to extend the margin. Ryan Donovan led off with a single and was lifted by pinch runner Caleb Ratzman, who stole second. Following Jacobson's sacrifice bunt, Matthew De La Rosa hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1.

Graf gave up a one-out triple but struck out the side in the seventh to pick up the save for the Bullfrogs.

The Bullfrogs will finish their seven games in six days home stand Friday night at 7:05 for UW Health Organ Night before traveling to Battle Creek to face the Bombers on the road this weekend.

Single game tickets are on sale now. Visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com to purchase tickets. The Bullfrogs' business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
