Augusta GreenJackets News Release
North Augusta, SC: After the GreenJackets (14-13) won five consecutive games, the Hagerstown Suns (13-16) came to town and have now won the first two games of the series. A three-run first for the Suns hurt the Jackets as they fall on Star Wars night 5-4.
In the 1st inning, Hagerstown broke the bats out right away. GreenJackets starter Jesus Ozoria allowed RBI singles to Jacob Rhinesmith and Gilbert Lara to give Hagerstown a 2-0 lead. An error for Wander Franco allowed another run to score and the Suns had an early 3-0 advantage.
The first time through the batting order for the Suns, they had six hits. Ozoria settled down nicely though and went the next three innings without allowing a run.
In the 2nd inning, Frankie Tostado grabbed the GreenJackets first hit. Tostado hit his 5th home run of the year, on a line-drive to left field, to make the score just 3-1 Hagerstown.
Jesus Ozoria ends his night after four innings allowing three runs, with two being earned.
In the 5th inning Wander Franco hit his 2nd home run of the homestand and his 5th of the season and the GreenJackets trailed by just a run.
In the 7th inning, Trey Vickers smashed a two-run home run and the Suns extended their lead to 5-2. It was Vickers 2nd home run of the season.
The lead was shortened quickly for Hagerstown though. The GreenJackets responded in the 7th, as Jacob Gonzalez pinch hit and smacked a sacrifice fly to make it 5-3. Then it was an RBI double for Ismael Munguia to cut the lead to 5-4 for Hagerstown. Munguia extended his hitting streak to 13-games now.
Keaton Winn ends his night out of the bullpen going five innings and allowing just two runs, while striking-out three.
In the 9th inning, the GreenJackets threatened. With runners on 1st and 2nd base and one out, Gonzalez struck out, and it was followed by a groundout from Munguia. Jackson Stoeckinger gets the save for Hagerstown.
The Suns steal game two and guarantee a split with the GreenJackets in the four-game series.
Player of the Game: Frankie Tostado, 2-4, R, HR, RBI
Frankie Tostado collected his 8th multi-hit game of the season as he hit home run number five, and also had a double. Tostado is now slugging .558 this year.
