Force DS Kevin Gaines named AFL Defensive Player of the Month

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA, April 7, 2005 – The Arena Football League announced today that Georgia Force Defensive Specialist Kevin Gaines was named the League's ADT Defensive Player of the Month for March.

GAINES (6-1, 205, Louisville), now in his eighth AFL season, recorded 30.5 total tackles, two interceptions and two pass break-ups in March. He tied his career-high with 11.0 tackles at New York (March 12) and pulled in his fifth interception of the season against the Dragons. That next week vs. Orlando (March 19), Gaines hauled in his AFL-leading sixth interception of the season and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown and added 2.0 tackles.

He currently leads the Force in total tackles with 65.0 (2nd in AFL) and interceptions with 6 (T-1st in AFL). The Force were 3-1 during March and are currently tied for the Southern Division lead.

This marks the first time that Gaines has earned an AFL monthly award. Earlier this season, he was awarded the ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his Week 3 efforts.

The Georgia Force (7-3) return home to Philips Arena this week to host the Austin Wranglers (4-6) on Friday, April 8th at 7:30 pm. The game will be televised locally on Fox Sports Net South.
