Bon Jovi's Soul and Elway's Crush clash Sunday on NBC

Published on April 7, 2005 under Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

NEW YORK – The Colorado Crush host the Philadelphia Soul this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on NBC. The Crush (7-2) have won six straight, have the American Conference's best record and are ranked No. 1 in the AFL Writers Association poll. The Soul (5-5) have won three straight, are back to .500 and in the hunt for their first playoff appearance.

Philadelphia co-owner JON BON JOVI and Colorado co-owner JOHN ELWAY recently discussed their respective team's seasons and Sunday's game:

TO ELWAY: You have the hottest team in the league and the best record in the American Conference. How do you manage the success?

Elway: We just have to take things one week at a time. We haven't reached our goal yet and things can change in this league in a hurry.

TO BON JOVI: How difficult was it making a coaching change midseason?

Bon Jovi: There is a risk any time you make a change. This organization is and will remain grateful to Mike Trigg for enabling us to even field a team last year. Considering we have no NFL affiliation and entered a new business with nothing but a dream, he did a fine job. That said, it was time to make a change and it's the tough decisions that build the character of any organization.

TO ELWAY: Are the Crush where you envisioned them after three seasons?

Elway: Yes. We are excited about where we are at this point. It has been a lot of work, but we feel like we are in a good place.

TO BON JOVI: As an owner, what has been the biggest difference between year one and two?

Bon Jovi: As the league continues to grow, we as owners are still having fun. Wherever you go, people talk about the league this year. A lot of that has to do with the ownership group -- some of the NFL's elite, as well as some outsiders, like me.

TO ELWAY: What's been the most difficult decision you've made with the Crush?

Elway: Removing our head coach after the first year. (Former Crush head coach) Bob Beers is a good person and good friend of the family. It was a very tough decision.

TO BON JOVI: Were you pleased with the outcome of this year's mini-movie?

Bon Jovi: Those commercials are the biggest selling point we have and I get a lot of positive feedback. John Elway has tried to resist, but Hollywood is calling. It's just a matter of time. Look out BRAD PITT.

TO ELWAY: The Crush won the mini-movie "Rumble in the House" last year and both games on the field. The Soul won this year's mini-movie "Rumble in the Montecito." Do you think there's a connection between the outcome of the mini-movies and the on-field games?

Elway: I hope they don't hold true and we can break the mini-movie trend this year.

Q: Prediction for Sunday...

Elway: Crush 66-52.

Bon Jovi: I'll be there Sunday. End of prediction.
