PHILADELPHIA SECONDARY vs. COLORADO OS DAMIAN HARRELL
How do you stop one of the AFL's hottest receivers? That is the question Philadelphia Soul head coach JAMES FULLER and his defense will try to answer when the Soul (5-5) travel to Pepsi Center to play Offensive Player of the Year candidate OS DAMIAN HARRELL (6-3, 200, Florida State) and the AFLWA's No. 1-ranked Colorado Crush (7-2) this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on NBC.
Harrell, who is currently in his seventh season, set a new AFL record with his 42nd consecutive regular-season game with a receiving touchdown in last week victory over Las Vegas. During his streak, Harrell has had 23 games with at least three receiving touchdowns, 21 games with 100 or more receiving yards, and seven games with double-digit catches. The former FSU receiver is known for his great hands, highlight-reel catches and athletic ability.
Fuller will count on the trio of DS CALVIN COLEMAN (5-10, 181, Montana), EDDIE MOTEN (5-10, 185, Texas A&M-Kingsville) and JOSEPH TODD (5-9, 180, Mississippi Valley State) draw the duty of trying to contain Harrell. The three ball-hawking defenders have tallied 108.0 total tackles, five interceptions and 22 pass breakups.
SAN JOSE OS RASHIED DAVIS vs. CHICAGO SECONDARY
San Jose will look to offensive specialist RASHIED DAVIS (5-10, 180, San Jose State), among the leading candidates for Offensive Player of the Year honors, for another solid performance as they try to extend their current winning streak to five games when they face the Chicago Rush (5-4) this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on NBC.
The speedy former Spartan leads the AFL in kickoff returns for touchdowns (4), No. 2 in kick return average (26.8 yards) and sixth in all-purpose yards (1,400). Through nine games, Davis, who is 12th in scoring (114 points), has scored 19 touchdowns â five rushing, 10 receiving and four on kickoff returns.
The trio of DS TODD HOWARD (5-10, 188, Michigan), JEROID JOHNSON (5-9, 185, Oklahoma State) and RUSSELL SHAW (5-10, 190, Michigan) will have the main responsibility of knowing Davis' location at all times. The three have patrolled the Rush secondary and delivered 97.5 total tackles, 21 pass breakups and three interceptions in 2005.
