San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Apr. 7, 2005) — San Jose offensive specialist RASHIED DAVIS and rookie defensive specialist TREMAIN MACK were today named the Arena Football League's Offensive Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month, respectively, after helping the SaberCats to an undefeated record in the month of March.

Davis (5-10, 180, San Jose State), a three-year AFL veteran, accounted for 15 touchdowns (5 rushing, 7 receiving and 3 kickoff returns) as the team's starting OS and amassed 927 all-purpose yards as the SaberCats went 4-0 in March by averaging 65.5 points per game. On the receiving end, Davis hauled in 30 receptions for 441 yards.

At Las Vegas on March 28, Davis matched a team record and set a career high with seven touchdowns (3 rushing, 3 receiving, 1 KO return). He became the first player in team history with back-to-back 300-plus all-purpose yard games (341 on March 18 and 302 on March 28) and earned Offensive Player of the Week honors twice (Week 8 and Week 9).

Mack (6-1, 195, Miami-FL) provided the defensive spark for the SaberCats. He started all four games during the month and matched a league record by earning Defensive Player of the Game honors in each contest. For the month he recorded three interceptions, 20.5 tackles (including a tackle for loss), five pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

Mack earned his first career start on March 6 at Orlando and had 6.0 total tackles and three pass breakups en route to being named Defensive Player of the Game and, subsequently, AFL Defensive Player of the Week (Week 7).

The former NFL Pro-Bowler had two interceptions, including one which was returned for a touchdown, and posted 5.5 tackles in the first half of San Jose's win at Las Vegas on March 28. He sustained a hamstring injury and did not play in the second half.

This marks the first time that both players have earned an AFL monthly award.

The club also announced the signing of former player and Oakland native WR/DB DEVON BANKS to the practice squad. Signed by Las Vegas off the SaberCats practice squad on April 20, 2004, Banks played in five games last year with the Gladiators posting 16.5 tackles.

The SaberCats travel to Chicago for a 2004 semifinal playoff rematch with the Rush on Sunday, April 10. The game will be televised on KNTV (NBC11) at 10:00 a.m. The next home game is set for Friday, April 15 when the SaberCats host the Dallas Desperados. Individual game tickets are available and can be purchased through any Northern California TicketMaster outlet, online at www.ticketmaster.com and at the HP Pavilion box office.
