Lancaster Stormers News Release

Ben Moore twirled seven strong innings on Sunday evening, pitching the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to a 9-1 victory over the Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Barnstormers now stand 4 1/2 games behind York in the Freedom Division's second half.

Moore, making his first start for the Blue Crabs after going 13-4 for Sioux Falls of the American Association this season, allowed four hits while walking two and striking out eight. The only blemish on his night was a towering home run to right center by Matt Watson in the second inning.

The Blue Crabs raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first against Yunior Novoa (5-5). Adam Godwin led off with a single to right. He bolted for second on a pickoff move by Novoa and made it easily when Tommy Everidge was unable to transfer the ball to his throwing hand. One out later, Brian Barton dropped a bloop single into right center that failed to move Godwin. Casey Benjamin picked up a walk to load the bases, and Travis Garcia gave Southern Maryland a 2-0 lead with a double into the right center alley. Ben Harrison cleared shortstop Iggy Suarez with a liner to produce the third run.

After Watson cut the lead to 3-1 with his one-out homer in the second, the Blue Crabs stretched the lead back to three in their next at bat. Barton laid a perfect bunt down the third base line and promptly stole second. Following a fly ball to left by Benjamin, Barton broke for third. Novoa appeared to have him caught, but he was ruled to have balked on the move. Garcia was put on by the Barnstormers, and Ben Harrison grounded into a force play.

Barton launched a three-run homer to right center in the top of the fourth for a 7-1 lead. Doubles by Brandon Pinckney and Garcia drove in subsequent runs.

The series concludes on Labor Day Monday at 3:00. J.D. Durbin (8-2) will take the hill for the Barnstormers against right-hander Nick Green (9-6). The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com and ibnsports.com.

NOTES: Everidge set the team doubles record with 36...Ryan Cullen made his 2011 Barnstormers debut...Watson's homer was his tenth of the second half.
