Ducks Hold off Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 4-3 before 5,129 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday night.

The Ducks broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth inning. The go ahead run scored on a bases loaded walk to Dan Lyons. A sacrifice fly by House gave the Ducks a 4-2 advantage.

Somerset made it a one run game on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Nettles in the bottom of the ninth for the 4-3 final.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Yusuf Carter.

The Ducks tied up the game in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by J.R. House to make the score 1-1.

Somerset rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Justin Huber.

Long Island tied up the game in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI single by House.

Jeremy Hill (7-1) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Ron Villone (0-4) suffered the loss, allowing a run in an inning pitched. Bubbie Buzachero earned his 19th save of the season.

The 2011 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Monday, September 5th when the Patriots take on the Long Island Ducks at 6:05 pm.
