Somerset Patriots News Release
Richmond, Virginia - The Somerset Patriots (40-25) allowed a late lead to slip away in a 8-7 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (37-29) Sunday night at the Diamond.
An Heliot Ramos (10) two-run home run in the seventh and a Diego Rincones (2) two-run shot in the eighth turned a late 7-4 propelled the Flying Squirrels ahead in the late stages of Sunday's series-finale.
The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead on a Michael Beltre RBI groundout in the first. After Richmond tied the game on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first, Somerset regained a 4-1 lead with three runs in the second, including an RBI single from Oswald Peraza.
Beltre pushed the Patriots lead to 5-1 in the fifth on his second run-scoring groundout of the game, but the Flying Squirrels responded on a three-run home run from Sandro Fabian (8) in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one-run game.
That chased Somerset starter Ken Waldichuk from the contest. The lefty allowed four runs while striking out seven over 5.1 innings of work.
Oswaldo Cabrera (12) blasted a two-run bomb in the top of the seventh to stretch the Patriots margin back out to three runs. Cabrera finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored, and a triple shy of the cycle.
But the Ramos and Rincones homers in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, pushed Richmond ahead for good.
Raffi Vizcaino (W, 2-0) earned the win with one scoreless inning of relief. Ron Marinaccio (BS, L, 1-1) allowed two runs over one inning to get saddled with the loss.
The Patriots are off on Monday before welcoming in the Altoona Curve for a six-game series beginning Tuesday night at TD Bank Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
