Ducks Fall, 6-5 in 11, Then Take Series with 5-1 Win in Harrisburg

July 18, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

After Harrisburg rallied for a 6-5, 11-inning win to complete Saturday's suspended game, Akron scored four first-inning runs against Senators right-hander Cade Cavalli, and RubberDucks left-hander Tanner Tully struck out a season-high eight batters in six innings to clinch a 4-2 series victory with a 5-1, seven-inning win Sunday afternoon at FNB Field.

Turning Point

In the resumed game, the Senators rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game in the eighth inning, 4-4, and the 10th inning, 5-5. In the 11th, still in a tie game with shortstop Gilbert Lara at second base, catcher Allan Berríos reached on a sacrifice bunt to right-hander Juan Móta, who walked center fielder Cole Freeman to load the bases. Right fielder Rhett Wiseman hit a walk-off sacrifice fly. When Akron came to bat in the first inning against Cavalli, he walked left fielder Will Benson and shortstop Tyler Freeman, designated hitter Richie Palacios singled, and third baseman Andruw Monasterio drilled a three-run double to left-center field. Second baseman Daniel Schneemann added an RBI single for a 4-0 lead.

Mound Presence

Left-hander Logan Allen made his second Double-A appearance to begin the second inning when play resumed from Saturday's game. He worked around three hits and a walk to preserve the 2-0 lead through the fifth inning. In the sixth, he allowed a leadoff bunt single to Wiseman, who later scored, after Allen departed with one out. Allen allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Left-hander Skylar Arias recorded two outs, right-hander Manuel Alvarez yielded three straight hits and two earned runs, and left-hander Ben Krauth allowed the tying run but went three innings, striking out three batters. Móta allowed two unearned runs in 1 1/3 innings. After Tully went the first six innings of Sunday's scheduled game, right-hander Dakody Clemmer pitched a perfect seventh inning to end it.

Duck Tales

In the resumed game, Akron took a 5-4, 10th-inning lead on Monasterio's RBI single. After Harrisburg tied it, 5-5, and had the winning run at third base with one out, the RubberDucks intentionally walked two batters to load the bases. Móta got Lara to ground to Palacios at second base for an inning-ending double play, sending the game into the 11th inning.
