SAN ANTONIO - The Flying Chanclas took an early lead with a three-run second inning. After allowing three runs to the Hooks, San Antonio scored five runs in the seventh inning to regain the lead against Corpus Christi. The Flying Chanclas snap their two-game losing streak with an 8-6 victory.
After a scoreless first inning, the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. The Chanclas plated three runs on three hits. Dwanya Williams-Sutton started the inning with a base hit and advanced to second base on a Juan Fernandez ground out. Michael Curry drove in Williams-Sutton with an RBI double. Agustin Ruiz was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base. A ground ball out moved both runners into scoring position. Esteury Ruiz drove in both runners with a single to left field. He was thrown out trying to the single into a double.
The Corpus Christi Hooks cut into the Chanclas lead after adding two runs in the top of the third inning. Facing Jerry Keel, Luke Berryhill and Bryan Arias hit back-to-back singles. After a mound visit, Ross Adolph scored both runners with a single to right field. The Flying Chanclas had a 3-2 lead.
Keel bounced back and pitched scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth without allowing a hit. He ran into some trouble in the top of the sixth. He allowed a one-out to David Hensley who advanced to second base on a wild pitch. After recording a strike out, Korey Lee tied the game with an RBI single, scoring Hensley. It was a 3-3 ballgame after six innings of play.
The Flying Chanclas pitched out of a jam in the top of the seventh inning to keep the game tied. Sam Williams took over for Keel to start the inning. After striking out the first batter he faced, Williams allowed a single to Arias and a walk to Adolph. Williams recorded out number two and then uncorked a wild pitch to move both runners into scoring position. He left the runners stranded after striking out Joe Perez.
San Antonio regained the lead in a big way during the bottom of the seventh inning. The Flying Chanclas plated five runs to take an 8-3 lead. The Chanclas loaded the bases after a Fernandez hit by pitch, and Agustin Ruiz base hit, and an Olivier Basabe walk. Esteury Ruiz drove in all three runs with a double to right field. Ethan Skender drove in Ruiz with an RBI single. Lastly, Eguy Rosario drove in Skender with an RBI double. For Rosario, it was his 30th double of the season.
The Hooks began their comeback attempt by scoring a run in the top of the eighth inning. Facing new pitcher Mason Fox, Hensley began the inning with a base hit. Hensley stole second base and then advanced to third base on a passed ball. Fox recovered with a strike out and a pop out. Matthew Barefoot drove in Hensley with an RBI single. It was an 8-4 Flying Chanclas lead.
The Hooks added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning. Facing Henry Henry, the Hooks loaded the bases with one out. Adolph walked, Julks hit a base hit, and Perez singled.
