December 1, 2006 - NBA G League (G League)
Fort Worth Flyers News Release

FORT WORTH, Texas, December 1, 2006 -Despite a sluggish start, the Fort Worth Flyers gutted out a 117-108 win against the Bakersfield Jam Friday night at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

At the start, the Flyers shot dismally, missing 10 of their first 13 attempts. It allowed the Jam to jump to an early lead that peaked at nine points with 7:18 remaining. Guard Corey Santee sunk a three-pointer at 5:53 to launch the Flyers' comeback. Fort Worth chipped away and melted Bakersfield's advantage to a mere two points by the end of the first quarter as the score was 27-25.

"We made some shots, but we weren't aggressive enough defensively," said head coach Sidney Moncrief.

The rivals played tightly throughout the second quarter as the largest lead by either team peaked at five points by the Jam. The Flyers ended the half at the short end of a 53-50 tally.

Flyers forward Ryan Hollins said the team's chemistry was not mixing quite right at the beginning of the game.

"Once we got into what the other team was trying to do, we did better in the second half," he said. "[Bakersfield] put up a good fight."

In the third quarter, the Jam and Flyers continued their rhythm. The Jam held the largest lead at six with 11:19. Not even a brief recess could grant a boost for either team. The net on the Jam's basket broke at 4:49, and it took several moments to remedy the situation. But at last, the Flyers ended a quarter on the winning side, leading 81-79 at the end of the period.

Entering the final quarter, both teams were shooting 47 percent and had 38 rebounds apiece. The Jam had four less turnovers, and the Flyers had three more assists. During the period the Flyers slowly but surely built a solid lead to pull away for the almost ten point win.

Tonight, the Flyers had the assistance of three players assigned from the NBA -guards Louis Williams and Bobby Jones from the Philadelphia 76ers and Hollins from the Charlotte Bobcats. Each pulled a double double tonight - Williams led all players with 28 points and 10 assists. Jones had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Hollins had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Mike Dean scored 25 points to lead the Jam, and Brandon Bowman added 16. Forward Kevinn Pinkney pitched in with a double double, scoring 14 points and hauling in 10 rebounds.

Moncrief said the NBA players add a lot to the Flyers, and they have picked up the system well.

"They're so talented," he said. "And they just love to play the game of basketball."

Moncrief said he is ecstatic about the first home win since it is something to build upon, and he looks forward to more victories in the future.

The 2-0 Flyers will have their first chance for a second home victory tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. as they host the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The loss drops the Jam to 0-4, and the team will return home and battle the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday, December 3.

"Our team is really starting to come together," said Hollins.
