Greeneville Flyboys News Release

Bluefield, WV - The Bluefield Ridge Runners held off the Greeneville Flyboys to win their first home game this season, 8-3.

The Ridge Runners scored the game's first run on a double play hit into by Chris Markovich that brought home Bryce Martin-Grudziclanek in the second inning. They added another run in the third inning on an RBI hit by Martin-Grudziclanek.

The Flyboys cut the lead in half in the fourth inning when Gavyn Boyle tripled with two outs and Nick Barone doubled him home. It was Boyle's first game since Opening Day when he was taken out of the game with a hamstring injury. Barone had two RBIs in the series opener and now leads the team in RBIs with seven of them.

The Ridge Runners held a 4-3 lead heading into the final three innings. The home team scored two runs in the seventh and eighth innings due in part to four walks that were issued by Aiden Denlinger. The right-hander retired the first eight batters he faced but gave up four runs in 3 1/3 innings pitched.

Connar Penrod pitched another scoreless outing for the Flyboys and picked up two more strikeouts. The reigning Appalachian League pitcher of the week has thrown five scoreless innings over four outings. He has not allowed a hit yet and has struck out 13 batters.

Flyboy's starter Ethan Phillips (0-1) took the loss. Reliever Julian Balzer (1-0) got the win for the Ridge Runners.

The two teams will meet for one more game tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. A link to listen to the game can be found on the Flyboys website.
