ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades opened the 2011-12 season this past weekend splitting a pair of games with the Gwinnett Gladiators at Germain Arena. The Everblades enter this week's action with a record of 1-0-0-1 (3 pts., 1st South Division.)

Friday, October 14 vs. Gwinnett Gladiators

3-2 Win

Everblades forwards Leigh Salters and Alex Hutchings each scored a goal in a 54 second span in the second period to help lift their club to a 3-2 opening night victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators. Florida outshot Gwinnett 12-3 in the middle frame. Gwinnett scored a power play goal at the 17:03 mark of the third period to pull within one, but the Blades were able to hang on and secure the win. The win was the first of the professional career of goaltender Pat Nagle who stopped 21 of 23 shots on net.

Saturday, October 15 vs. Gwinnett Gladiators

2-1 Shootout Loss

The Everblades suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday night, falling in the overtime shootout 2-1.Florida forward Luc Tardif scored his first goal in his first ECHL game, while Justin Milo scored the lone marker for the Gladiators in regulation. Florida goaltender John Muse and Gladiators netminder Jeff Jakaitis were solid in net, and did not allow goal for the final two periods sending the game to the overtime shootout. Neither team could light the lamp in the shootout in the first six rounds. Ironically, it was Tardif and Milo who score again in the seventh round. The teams traded opportunities for four more rounds, until Gwinnett's Tyler Murovich ended the game with a goal in the 11th round of the shootout. The Gwinnett win snapped a 7-game losing streak to Florida, dating back to last season.

Florida Special Teams: PP: 0-of-5; PK: 7-of-7.

Roster Moves: The Everblades acquired defenseman Dominic D'Amour from the Elmira Jackals last week. This will mark the second stint for D'Amour with the Everblades. The 6-3, 214-pound blue liner played 15 games for the 'Blades during the 2008-09 season.

Season Openers: With Friday night's win the Everblades improved to 10-3-1 all-time in season opening games. The Everblades have won their last five season opening contests. In season openers at home the Everblades improved to 7-2-0.
