
Florence Wins Opening Game at Evansville

(EVANSVILLE, Ind.) - Cameron Aspass tossed five shutout innings as the Florence Freedom defeated the Evansville Otters 8-2 at Bosse Field on Wednesday night.
Designated hitter Jimmy Baker also went 2 for 4 in the game with a home run and four RBIs.
Baker pushed Florence ahead 1-0 with an RBI single in the third inning and Stephen Shults drove in another run on a single later in the inning for the 3-0 edge.
The Freedom came out swining again in the next inning for another five runs. Billy Mottram singled home a pair of runs, and Jimmy Baker added a three-run home run to right field to go ahead 8-0.
With the lead, Cameron Aspass continued to pitch effectively for the Florence Freedom. In his professional debut, Aspass struck out nine batters and allowed no runs on two hits.
The right-hander was taken out after five innings of work for Ben Shivers who allowed a two-run home run to Otters designated hitter Brandon Cohen.
Reliever Chad Edwards also made his professional debut for the Evansville Otters as the pitcher tossed 3 2/3 innings, only giving up one hit. Edwards retired twelve batters in a row as he also did not allow a run.
The Freedom bullpen threw the last four innings of the game in the 8-2 victory. Aspass received the win for the Freedom as Jason Roenicke now is 2-3 this season. After today's game, both Florence and Evansville are 13-18 this season.
The Evansville Otters continue the six-game homestand tomorrow night against the Florence Freedom. The game will be the second in a three game series from Bosse Field. It will also be On Site Computer Solutions Night at the ballpark with first pitch set for 6:35 PM CST.
