TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Lake Erie Crushers picked up their sixth consecutive win Wednesday evening at Wuerfel Park, defeating the Traverse City Beach Bums 5-3.

It was a relatively sloppy game, with four total errors between the two teams including three on Traverse City.

The Crushers opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first when Jodam Rivera, who extended his hitting streak to 11 with a one-out single, scored on a wild pitch from Beach Bum starter Enrique Lechuga.

The game remained scoreless through the bottom of the inning, when Beach Bum right fielder Matt Brown was thrown out at home on a ground ball.

Traverse City would gain the lead in the fifth however. With Brown on first, Kyle Eveland hit a fly ball to right that scooted away from a diving Arden McWilliams. The throw in was then off-line, allowing both Brown and Eveland to score on the play and give Traverse City a 2-1 advantage.

The Crushers answered immediately in the top of the sixth when more poor fielding caught up with the Beach Bums. Andrew Saylor had drawn a walk before Wayne Bond singled to right. The throw in got away, allowing Saylor to score and Bond to advance to second. He then proceeded to cross the plate on McWilliams' base knock to make the score 3-2 Lake Erie.

The Crushers would get an insurance run in the seventh. With Rivera on third and Andrew Davis on second, Eddie Tisdale hit a ground ball back to the pitcher, who attempted to gun down Rivera at the plate but Jodam avoided the tag and scored to make it 4-2.

Rivera would score again on another Traverse City miscue in the ninth, when an error by C.J. Ziegler allowed him to cross the plate.

Traverse City threatened in the ninth against J.J. Pacella, bringing the tying run to the plate on J.T. Hall's home run and Ziegler's double, but Pacella got Tommy Johnson to pop out to end the game.

Travis Risser picked up the win for the Crushers, pitching six innings and allowing just the two runs on seven hits while striking out four.
