Rascals Shut Out Grizzlies

SAUGET, Ill. - River City right-hander Tim Woodward tossed 7.1 shutout innings Wednesday night to lead the Rascals to a 2-0 win over the Gateway Grizzlies in game one of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.

Just one game separates second-place Gateway (17-15) from third-place River City (16-16) in the West Division.

Woodward (3-1) allowed just three hits and struck out three en route to his second win this season against the Grizzlies. Jason Lowey earned his ninth save of the year, pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out one.

Scott Robinson grounded out to drive in the first run of the night for the Rascals in the first inning. Chris McClendon added his second home run of the year in the fifth inning for the 2-0 final.

David Goodenough (0-1) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Goodenough, making his professional debut, went 6.2 innings. He allowed both runs on seven hits. He struck out five.

Charlie Lisk finished the night 2 for 4. Jason Patton was 1 for 4. Landon Hernandez was 1 for 1, with a walk.

The Grizzlies and Rascals continue the series with a 7:05 game Thursday night at GCS Ballpark.
