Toronto Argonauts News Release

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate linebacker Michael Fletcher who has been named the CFL ADT Defensive Player of the Week for CFL Week 6. In addition, Quarterback Damon Allen received first runner-up honours as Offensive Player of the Week and nose tackle Noah Cantor took home first runner-up honours as Lineman of the Week.

Fletcher put forth another outstanding effort against the Renegades during Week 6 action. ‘Fletch', who has arguably been the most dominant all-around player in the linebacking corps this season, made three tackles, knocked away a pass and intercepted a Darnell Kennedy pass racing it back 47-yards for a touchdown. The touchdown turned out to be key in Toronto's narrow 28-25 win over Ottawa, the team's third win in a row.

Commented Player of the Week Judge Bob Krause: "Fletcher's statistics on the day indicated a very good performance, but what isn't shown in the numbers was Fletcher's ability to frustrate the opponent's advances. He forced the quarterback to either hurry his passes or scramble when he blitzed. He hustled to be the second man in on tackles to assure the back was taken down. He deflected a shuffle pass which definitely would have been a touchdown. Fletcher is one of the premiere linebackers in the CFL."

Quarterback Damon Allen was also named first runner-up as the CFL Offensive Player of the Week for his two touchdown, 392 passing yards performance. Also, just one week after nose tackle Noah Cantor was named Lineman of the Week, he has earned first runner-up honours for the same award. Cantor recorded five defensive tackles versus Ottawa at SkyDome.

The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003. The Toronto Argonauts have 14 Grey Cup championships to their credit. Full roster details are available at www.argonauts.ca. Season ticket hotline: (416) 341-ARGO.
