Fleet Sign UB Product; Brown, Caldwell Activated

Buffalo Destroyers News Release


(BUFFALO, NY) - The Buffalo Destroyers announced today WR/LB Eddie Brown and OL/DL David Caldwell have been activated from the injured reserve list. The Fleet put FB/LB Derrick Chachere on injured reserve with a knee injury. The team also announced they signed University at Buffalo grad OL/DL Tim Hedges to the practice squad.

Brown, the Destroyers team MVP from last season, appearing in the Destroyers first seven games before breaking his pinkie finger. Brown caught 17 passes for 261 and four touchdowns and recorded 11 tackles before his injury. Caldwell played in nine games registering four tackles, one sack and a fumble he recovered in the end zone for his second career touchdown.

"It should help us getting Eddie and David back," said Destroyers head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. "These are two 10 year Arena Football League veterans who know what it takes down the stretch."

Hedges, a native of Tonawanda, played four seasons at UB from 1998-2001 as an offensive guard. The 6'6 290 lbs. Hedges earned the Bulls Dominic Grossi Award for combined athletic prowess, sportsmanship and academic excellence his senior year. Hedges started all 11 games in 2001 and was a UB Scholar-Athlete as a Pre-Law student. He was a member of the Buffalo News All-Western New York team at Kenmore East High School.

"We brought Tim in on a two-day tryout earlier in the season and he impressed us," Bentley added. "We wanted to give him a longer look."

The Destroyers head to the Peach State to meet the Georgia Force Saturday, July 6 at 7:30 PM at the Philips Arena in Atlanta. The game will be televised on the Empire Sports Network and simulcast on WNSA 107.7 FM and WJTN 1240 AM.

The Fleet return home Friday, July 12 to wrap up their regular season home schedule as they host the Carolina Cobras at 7:30 PM at the HSBC Arena. Tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444!
