Western New York Flash News Release
ELMA, N.Y. ( Friday, September 12, 2014 ) - The Western New York Flash announced today that it has waived midfielder Courtney Wetzel, defender Teigen Allen and goalkeepers DiDi Haracic and Lydia Williams.
Wetzel, 25, joined the Flash as part of a trade with Portland Thorns FC that saw Sarah Huffman and Veronica Boquete join the Thorns in exchange for Wetzel and Kathryn Williamson. In her second year in the NWSL, Wetzel appeared in eight games with one recorded shot.
Allen, 20, was signed as a free agent on June 9. A native of Australia, the defender started in two games on the backline with four total appearances on the season.
Haracic, 22, was added to the Flash roster on July 17 after Williams' season was ended on a knee injury. A product of Loyola University (Md.), Haracic made her professional debut in the Flash's season finale, earning a 3-3 draw at the Chicago Red Stars.
Williams, a USA/Australia dual citizen, made 14 starts in net before seeing her first NWSL season cut short due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscal tear in her left knee. In 1,183 minutes played, the 26-year-old goalkeeper compiled a 6-6-1 record with an average of 1.07 goals against per game and two shutouts.
Teams have until Monday, Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. ET to claim a player off of the Waiver Wire.
In the event a player is requested by more than one team, that player will be awarded to the team that finished lower in the standings during the 2014 NWSL regular season. Once a team claims a player from waivers, it is moved to the bottom of the claiming order for all future waiver sessions for the remainder of the offseason.
