Sky Blue FC News Release
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (September 12, 2014) - Sky Blue FC midfielder Ashley Nick has signed with Apollon Ladies FC of the Cypriot First Division. She will play with the reigning six-time league champions in Cyprus until mid-December.
In addition, Apollon has qualified for the 2014-15 UEFA Women's Champions League and advanced to the Round of 32. Next, the club will face Brøndby IF of Denmark on October 8, 2014.
"I'm excited to join Apollon and compete in the UEFA Women's Champions League," Nick said. "I feel blessed to be able to have the opportunity to play the game I love in another culture, as well as in the well-respected Champions League."
This past season, the Southern California native made 22 appearances - earning 17 starts - and scored her first professional goal with SBFC on April 27 against the Boston Breakers.
"Ashley has signed with Apollon Ladies FC for the next three months, which will be a great experience for her to continue to develop and compete at a high level during the offseason," Sky Blue FC technical director and head coach Jim Gabarra said. "We are currently in talks with her to bring her back to Sky Blue FC next season."
Nick signed with Sky Blue FC on July 31, 2013 after previously competing with Pali Blues of the W-League. She led Pali to the 2013 W-League Championship and was named MVP of the Championship game for her efforts.
Sky Blue FC is currently in negotiations with Nick regarding a new contract for the upcoming NWSL season.
