Orem, UT - The Utah Flash (23-15) used a big third quarter run to top the New Mexico Thunderbirds (15-25) 106-88 on Saturday night. The Flash's franchise long win-streak was increased to nine games with tonight's victory.
In the first quarter, the Flash jumped out to a 13-5 lead led by Ryan Thompson who had a couple of early 3-pointers. The T-Birds would answer with an 8-0 to tie up the game at 13 and ended up trailing by just two points, 25-23 at the end of one quarter.
After a back and forth start to the second quarter, the Flash used a 9-0 run to equal their largest lead of the game at 53-45. Brandon Costner led the Flash with 15 points at the half and Utah led by that eight point margin, 59-51. Walter Sharpe led the T-Birds with 15 points of his own at the break.
With 7:53 to go in the third quarter, Shane Edwards hit a turnaround jumper to cut the lead down to seven points. Utah would then take control of the game with a 19-1 run to take an 85-60 lead. They would hold a 20 point advantage after three quarters and go on to win by 18.
Utah had seven players score in double figures led by Costner who had 21 points. Jazz assignee Jeremy Evans had 11 points, nine rebounds, and a team-high five blocks in under 30 minutes of play. Andre Ingram added 19, and Ryan Thompson had 17 points in his first start of the year.
The Flash have six days off before they head to Reno for a weekend double-header with the Bighorns.
