Toros Shoot Down Skyforce

Austin, TX March 5, 2011 - The Austin Toros defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 115-96 Saturday afternoon at Cedar Park Center. This is the first time the two have met on the Toros new home court. The Toros finished their home stretch 3-2 with the only loses coming in double overtime. Toros' Leo Lyons led all scorers with 29 points and eight rebounds.

The game began as a back and forth struggle between the Toros and the Skyforce, but the Toros captured the lead at the end of the first going on a 16-4 run. With 2.4 seconds left on the clock, Aubrey Coleman made a lay-up contributing to the Toros lead of 57-42 at the end of the first half.

The Skyforce began playing catch-up as they went on a 6-0 run in the opening minutes of the third quarter, but the Toros managed to maintain their lead throughout the third shooting 47 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc compared to the Skyforce's 40 percent and 14 percent respectively. Lyons caught fire early in the fourth contributing 10 points to the Toros score. With three minutes left to play, the Toros took the biggest lead of the game of 20 points with a jump shot by Stephen McDowell.

Lyons was followed by Aubrey Coleman (16) and Marcus Cousin (16) who recorded his 16th double-double of the season with 13 rebounds. Kevin Palmer contributed 15 points to the Toros leader board, recording a double-double with 10 rebounds. David Bailey led the Skyforce in scoring with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Patrick Ewing Jr. (17) and Chris McCray (17) followed Bailey in scoring for the Legends.

The Austin Toros (17-22) will head to Frisco, Texas to face off with the Texas Legends Friday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m.. The Sioux Falls Skyforce (7-30) will play the Texas Legends on Wednesday, March 9 at Texas. Fans can watch the game live on NBA Futurecast.
