Flash Take Former UCONN Star Denham Brown With Top Pick In 2008-09 Draft

OREM, Utah, Nov. 1, 2007 - The Utah Flash used its first selection (9th overall) in the eighth annual NBA Development League Draft to take former Connecticut guard/forward Denham Brown.

The 6-5, 215-pound Brown spent the 2007-08 season in Italy with Tisettanta Cantu, averaging 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds in 32 games. Brown played in the 2008 NBA Summer League with the Cleveland Cavaliers and played 42 games with the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA D-League in 2006-07, averaging 18.6 points and 5.4 rebounds.

Small forward Gavin Grant of North Carolina State was the second player taken by the Flash (24th overall), followed by Bennet Davis from Northeastern in the third round (41st overall). Grant, 6-7, 200, averaged 13.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.9 rebounds in 31 games as a Wolfpack senior last season. Davis averaged 15.0 points and 6.6 rebounds as a senior for Northeastern. He finished his career as the second-leading shot blocker in school history with 170.

"We are expecting big things to come after selecting Denham Brown," Flash head coach Brad Jones said. "We were able to address our needs with this draft and are really excited about getting camp started next weekend to get these guys competing."

Rounding out the Flash's draft were PF Carlos Wheeler (6-7, 220) from Campbellsville, C Calvin Brown (6-9, 255) from Norfolk State, SF John Barber (6-7, 220) from Youngstown State, SF Torrington Cox (6-7, 210) from King College, G/F Eddie Ard (6-5, 215) from Lipscomb, C Casey Love (6-8, 265) from Robert Morris and PG Marcus Malone (6-5, 215) from Houston.

The 10 players selected in the draft will join returning players Brian Jackson and Andre Ingram, as well as allocated players Mike Hall of BYU and Kris Clark of Utah State when training camp begins on Nov. 16. Guard Chris Moore from Tulane, post player Steve Newman from Georgia and guard Ryan Diggs from Western Washington all earned a ticket to training camp through the Flash's free agent tryout in late September.
