Flash Outlast Stampede In Overtime, 112-109

BOISE, Idaho, December 28, 2009 - In the Stampede's first overtime game of the season the Flash jumped out ahead to land a victory scoring 112 to Idaho's 109.

The Flash came out strong with Andre Ingram scoring 14 points in the first quarter. The Stampede fought back hard with Cedric Simmons scoring nine points and three rebounds in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter the Flash led the Stampede 33 - 16.

The Stampede gained momentum in the second quarter, cutting the Flash lead to five going into halftime. Cedric Simmons continued his run scoring another nine points in the second quarter along with seven rebounds. Sundiata Gaines also contributed with 11 points and two assists in the quarter. The Stampede's defense was able to hold back Andre Ingram who scored three points in the second.

The Stampede came out hard in the third quarter scoring 31 points to the Flash's 22. Mildon Ambres scored nine points and six rebounds while Sundiata Gaines had 12 points. With 1:12 to go in the third quarter the Stampede took the lead for the first time in the game with a three-pointer from Sundiata Gaines. Idaho went into the fourth quarter with a 76 - 72 lead.

In the fourth quarter both teams fought hard with the Stampede scoring 22 and the Flash 26. Mildon Ambres led the Stampede with eight points and three rebounds while the Flash's Orien Green finished the quarter with eight points and two rebounds. Neither team could come up with a final basket leaving the game tied at 98 at the end of the fourth.

The Stampede came within one after a basket from Sundiata Gaines with seven seconds to go in overtime. After two made free throws from Utah's Ingram the Stampede were behind 110 - 107. The Flash were able to hold off Idaho and land their first win this season in Boise.

"I saw a good effort from both teams after just playing two nights ago, said Head Coach Bob MacKinnon. When you spot 19 points its hard to come back and win."

The Flash delivered six players in the double digits including Andre Ingram leading with 22, Carlos Wheeler with 20 and 14 rebounds, Dontell Jefferson with 17, Orien Greene with 15 and ten rebounds, and Bennet Davis with 12 points.

Idaho's Mildon Ambres finished with his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points, 12 rebounds. The Stampede's Cedric Simmons also finished with his second double-double of the season with 29 points and 13 rebounds.

The Idaho Stampede take on the Reno Bighorns on January 1st at 8 p.m. in Reno. The Utah Flash travel to face the Albuquerque Thunderbirds on December 31 at 7 p.m.
