Skyforce To Host Community Blood Drive
December 29, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, S.D. (December 29, 2009) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that they will host a community blood drive on Wednesday, Dec. 30 from 12-6 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena. Anyone donating blood will receive four free tickets to that night's game against the Dakota Wizards. Food and refreshments will also be provided courtesy of the Sioux Falls Arena.
"Due to the recent winter storm, Community Blood Bank has had to cancel multiple blood drives, which has challenged the blood supply," said Community Blood Bank Executive Director Ken Versteeg. "Without this event, we are not able to provide an adequate blood supply for the community."
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and Sioux Falls Police Department will be competing to see which department can recruit the most blood donors for Community Blood Bank in the 15th Annual "Heroes Behind the Badges" blood donation campaign.
From December 28 through January 6, both Avera McKennan Hospital and Sanford Medical Center blood donor rooms will be available for donations. The public is encouraged to come in to donate and designate their donation to the department of their choice. Donors can choose a "police" or "fire" t-shirt while supplies last. Walk-ins are welcome, or call 322-7111 (Avera McKennan) or 333-6444 (Sanford) for appointments.
The department credited with the most blood donations will contribute $350 to the service organization of their choice; second place will donate $150. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue has chosen Children's Home Society and the Sioux Falls Police Department has designated the Special Olympics of South Dakota.
Community Blood Bank uses 550 units of blood per week to meet the needs of local hospital patients. Last year's "Heroes Behind the Badges" collected over 700 donations. For more information about "Heroes Behind the Badges" and donating blood, log onto www.cbblifeblood.org.
The Skyforce's next game is tomorrow night at home against the archrival Dakota Wizards. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena. Season tickets and 12-ticket flex packs are on sale for the 2009-10 season. Discounts and benefits are also available for groups of 10 or more. For more information please contact a Skyforce representative at (605) 332-0605.
