T-Birds Come Up Short In Los Angeles

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, Dec. 29, 2009 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds fell to the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Tuesday night, 91 - 80. Shane Edwards had game highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds in just his third game with the team.

Albuquerque trailed 45 - 40 at halftime, and were within four heading into the final frame. However, the T-Birds were outscored by seven in the fourth quarter, as Los Angeles pulled away for the 11 point victory.

Both teams struggled from the field, as Albuquerque managed just 33.8% shooting for the game. Los Angeles shot 42.2%.

Carlos Powell scored 17 for the T-Birds, just two days after scoring a league high 40. Kevin Pittsnogle (13), Antoine Agudio (11), and Chad Toppert (10) also scored in double figures for Albuquerque.

Michael Fey paced Los Angeles with 19 points, and also pulled down 11 rebounds. Diamon Simpson also had a double-double for the home team, with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The 80 points scored by Albuquerque is the team's fewest in a game this season. The game featured 11 ties and 12 lead changes.

The Thunderbirds will continue their road trip when they take on the Utah Flash on Dec. 31. The game will begin at 7:00 pm MT, and fans can either listen in on 96.3 KBZU or watch the game live on NBA Futurecast.
