Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Wisconsin left fielder Jeff Flaig had four hits to lead the way to a 3-2 victory over the Clinton LumberKings Sunday afternoon in the final home game of the season for the Rattlers. Flaig's fourth hit of the game was his first home run of the season. That homer broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth.
The LumberKings (43-88 overall, 20-42 second half) got on the board first. Clinton had runners at first and third with no outs in the top of the fourth inning. Ben Crabtree grounded into a 6-4-3 double play and the runner from third scored for a 1-0 lead.
Wisconsin (50-82, 23-39) got their bats going in the bottom of the sixth inning. Flaig started the rally with a one out single, his third hit of the game. Chris Minaker followed with an RBI double into the left field corner to chase Flaig home with the tying run. Johan Limonta followed with an RBI single to give the Rattlers a 2-1 lead.
Clinton rallied with two outs in the top of the seventh. Terry Blunt doubled and David Peterson drove him in with a single to tie the game 2-2.
The LumberKings had two on with one out in the top of the eighth against reliever Edgar Guaramato. But, the Rattler defense turned a difficult 3-6-1 double play to end the threat. The Wisconsin defense turned a total of three double plays on the afternoon.
Flaig led off the bottom of the eighth inning by lining an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall for a homer and a 3-2 Rattler lead. Flaig's last home run was on August 17, 2005 when he was a member of the Everett AquaSox in the Northwest League.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save of the season to help the Rattlers pick up their third win in a row.
The Rattlers season concludes with an eight game road trip. Game one of that trip is Monday night in Peoria. The Rattlers starting pitcher will be Juan Colon (1-1, 7.08). The Chiefs will counter with Joel Santo (9-9, 5.12ERA). Game time at O'Brien Field is 7:00pm.
