Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - The South Bend SilverHawks used two big innings to topple the Lansing Lugnuts 10-5 before 4,694 fans at Oldsmobile Park Sunday afternoon. Lansing did win the series 3-1.
The SilverHawks trailed 4-2 in the fourth before taking the game over. Bryan Byrne's solo homer cut the Lugnuts' lead to 4-3. After Ricardo Sosa and Greg Thomson both reached base, Steve Mena doubled into left field to tie the game at 4-4. Trey Hendricks later grounded into a double play that scored Thomson to make it 5-4.
Five more runs crossed the plate for the SilverHawks in the seventh inning as they sent ten batters to the plate. Byrne drew a bases loaded walk to make it 7-4. Sosa was then hit by a pitch that extended the lead to 8-4. Thomson then laced a doubled to left-center field that plated two more runs to make it 10-4.
Lansing scored four of its five runs in the third inning. Jason Armstrong's sacrifice fly cut the South Bend lead to 2-1. Jacob Butler followed that with an RBI double to tie the score at 2-2. Brian Pettway's single gave Lansing a 3-2 lead and David Hicks doubled in the final run to put the Lugnuts ahead 4-2.
Kyle Wright (8-4) got the win for the SilverHawks, throwing seven innings and allowing four runs on eight hits.
Adrian Martin (7-3) took the loss for the Lugnuts, going three innings and surrendering five runs on seven hits.
Lansing will open a four game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps on Monday evening at Fifth Third Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
