Five-Run Seventh Sinks Cyclones in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - RF Stanley Consuegra continued his assault on Winston-Salem pitching on Saturday night, clubbing his third home run in the last four games. However, the Dash delivered five runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally and defeat the Brooklyn Cyclones, 6-4, at Truist Stadium.

Scoreless through an inning of play, Consuegra walloped the second offering of the second inning onto the berm in left for a solo home run. The 22-year-old's third of the season and second in as many games, put the 'Clones ahead, 1-0.

The lead did not last, though. DH Shawn Goosenberg unloaded on the first pitch of the bottom of the second and deposited it beyond the left-field wall for a solo shot. The Northwestern alum's first of the season tied the game at one.

It remained even until Brooklyn (3-5) loaded the bags in the sixth. SS Kevin Kendall singled and advanced to third on a double off the left-field fence by C Kevin Parada. After a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, CF Jaylen Palmer provided the lead.

On a 2-2 pitch, the Canarsie, Brooklyn native kept a line drive fair down the left-field line. All three runners scampered home on the two-base knock, giving the Cyclones the lead back, 4-1.

Brooklyn remained in charge until Winston-Salem's (4-2) bats came to life in the seventh inning.

The Dash cut the deficit to two when 2B Taishi Nakawake reached on a bunt single and moved to third on a wild pitch and a ground out before scoring on 1B Alsander Womack's single to left.

On the very next toss, LF D.J. Gladney demolished a game-tying, two-run home run beyond the fence in left. The Illinois resident's second home run of the season - and series - knotted the game at four.

Winston-Salem did not stop there. After RF Wilfred Veras reached on an error, 3B Wes Kath pummeled the first delivery he saw into the right-field seats for a go-ahead, two-run blast. The 20-year-old's first of the year put the Dash in front for the first time, 6-4.

The Cyclones rallied in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback. 2B Justin Guerrera singled and DH Joe Suozzi reached on an error, but a fly out to right ended the rally and the game.

RHP Tyler Stuart punched out a career-high seven in his second start for Brooklyn, taking a no-decision. RHP Joshua Cornielly (0-1) yielded the tying and go-ahead runs in the seventh and was saddled with the loss.

LHP Brooks Gosswein also registered seven strikeouts over 5.0 frames, but did not factor into the decision for Winston-Salem. Despite surrendering three runs in 2.0 innings, RHP Dylan Burns (1-1) garnered the win. LHP Jake Palisch hurled a scoreless ninth for the save.

Brooklyn will try to snag the final game of the road trip in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. RHP Blade Tidwell (0-1, 8.31 ERA) - the Mets' top pitching prospect - is slated to make his second start of the series. Winston-Salem's is expected to hand the ball to LHP Tommy Sommer (NR). First pitch from Truist Stadium is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
