Five-run Second Dooms Express As They Fall 9-0 To Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska - A five-run second inning led the Omaha Royals past the Round Rock Express 9-0 Saturday night at Rosenblatt Stadium. The Express (22-27) are now 1-8 when allowing an inning of four-plus runs, while the Royals (26-21) are on a seven-game winning streak, which is the longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League.

Jordan Parraz led off the inning and reached after being hit by a pitch. Jai Miller doubled and Ed Lucas singled to bring in Parraz. Cody Clark reached on a fielder's choice and back-to-back one-out singles by Irving Falu and David Lough gave the Royals the 2-0 lead and a pitching change had Erick Abreu replace Express starter Shane Loux. Alex Gordon's one-out single to right field brought in Clark and Falu. A throwing error by Abreu let Lough come in, extending the lead to 5-0.

Omaha added a two runs in the fourth and eighth inning.

Royals' starter Anthony Lerew (4-2) earned the victory, not allowing a run on five hits in 6.0 innings of work. He had no walks and five strikeouts. Matt Herges tossed 2.0 innings scoreless innings with one walk and one strikeout. Chris Hayes finished the game for the Royals, throwing a perfect ninth inning.

Loux (0-1) - who replaced projected starter Wesley Wright, who was recalled to Houston on Friday, was credited with the loss after giving up five runs in 1.1 innings. Loux had no strikeouts and a walk. Abreu worked 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Evan Englebrook worked 2.0 innings, giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

It was the third time the Express have been shutout this season, the last time being a 6-0 loss at Oklahoma City on April 13.

Brian Bogusevic (2-for-4) and Chris Johnson (2-for-4) were the only Round Rock hitters with multiple hits.

Jason Bourgeois (1-for-4) has now hit safely in 17 of 18 games and is riding a 13-game hitting streak on the road.

Round Rock and Omaha continue their four-game series on Sunday with a 1:35 p.m. CDT first pitch at Rosenblatt Stadium. Dueling right-handers will throw as the Express send Josh Banks (5-3, 3.00) to the mound, opposed by Philip Humber (3-3, 4.07) for the Royals.
