OMAHA, Nebraska - Jai Miller's two-out game-winning RBI double off the left field wall in the bottom of the 14th inning gave the Omaha Royals the 6-5 win over the Round Rock Express Friday night at Rosenblatt Stadium. It was the Express' (22-26) first loss in a series opener in five outings, while the Royals (25-21) won their sixth straight game, the longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League
Express reliever Roy Corcoran struck out Jordan Parraz and induced a fly out to Cody Clark after allowing a leadoff walk to Kila Ka'aihue in the the 14th. With two outs Miller delivered the walk-off double to end the game, scoring Ka'aihue from first base.
Four Royals' relievers didn't allowed a run in the final eight innings, before Greg Holland (1-2) earned the victory after tossing a perfect top half of the 14th with one strikeout. Starter Jorge Campillo tossed 5.0 innings, while allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Federico Castaneda (2.0), Blaine Hardy (2.0) and Josh Rupe (4.0) didn't allow any earned runs, while combing to scatter five hits.
Corcoran (1-8) was given the loss, allowing one run in 2.2 innings with two strikeouts and a walk. Andy Van Hekken allowed five runs, two of which were earned, on 10 hits in 7.0 innings. Van Hekken had one walk while striking out a season-high nine batters. Jonah Bayliss worked 4.0 innings scoreless frames with one hit. He walked the bases loaded in the ninth, but got out of the jam, inducing a fly out to Jordan Parraz.
The Royals evened the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh, with three unearned runs on two errors.
For the second consecutive night, Jason Bourgeois and Drew Locke were key contributors as each homered. Bourgeois led off the game with a home run, while Locke connected on a three-run jack in the third.
Bourgeois was 3-for-6 and has now hit safely in 16 of the last 17 games. It was Bourgeoios' ninth game of the season with three-plus hits, raising his average to .370.
Locke, Jason Castro and Michael Garciaparra each had two hits. Castro extended his hit streak to a season-high 10 games.
Round Rock and Omaha will continue their four-game series on Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Rosenblatt Stadium. With projected starter left-hander Wesley Wright being recalled to Houston on Friday, the Express have yet to determine a starter, while the Royals will counter with right-hander Anthony Lerew (3-2, 3.10).
