Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, CA - Buster Posey has been recalled by the San Francisco Giants, manager Bruce Bochy announced this afternoon. The top-rated prospect in the Giants farm system, Posey split time at catcher and first base with the Grizzlies this season.

Posey, 23, batted .349 (60-for-172) with 13 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 31 runs scored and 32 RBI in 47 games prior to his promotion. The Leesburg, Georgia native led the team and ranked fourth in the Pacific Coast League in both batting average and on-base percentage (.442). The fifth overall pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, Posey was rated by MLB.com as the fourth-best prospect in the game prior to the 2010 season.

The Grizzlies offense sports the highest on-base percentage in the Pacific Coast League at .359. After last night's 8-0 shutout victory at Salt Lake, the pitching staff ranks second in the 16-team PCL with a 3.37 ERA. Top prospect Madison Bumgarner has led the way, going 4-0 with a 1.09 ERA (6 ER/49.1 IP) over his last eight starts, all of which the Grizzlies have won. Tonight's starter Eric Hacker has also won seven of his first nine starts and leads the league in victories.

The Grizzlies' 32-16 record marks the best 48-game start in the history of the franchise, giving them a 10.5-game lead over both the Reno Aces and Sacramento River Cats, who are tied for second in the Pacific South Division. Fresno takes on Salt Lake tonight at 6:05 PDT at Spring Mobile Ballpark, where it has won seven straight, dating back to last season.

The first-place Grizzlies return home to face the archrival Sacramento River Cats in a four-game series beginning Saturday, June 5th at 7:05pm. Fans can purchase tickets for any game in the 2010 season at the Chukchansi Park Box Office, online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com, or over the phone at 559.320.TIXS.
