
Five-Run Fourth Lifts Shorebirds To 7-2 Win In Game Two

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (22-14) scored five runs in the fourth inning to defeat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 7-2 on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in front of 4,234 fans. The Shorebirds have won six of ten meetings against the Grasshoppers this season.
Jonathan Schoop extended his hitting streak to 13 games with his fifth home run of the year in the fourth inning. He has hit safely in all 13 games in the month of May.
The Grasshoppers scored the game's first runs in the third inning. Dan Black singled to open the inning. After stealing second and third, he scored on a two-out single by Brian McConkey. Then, Marcell Ozuna singled to score McConkey.
The Shorebirds exploded for five runs in the fourth inning. Ty Kelly walked to begin the inning. Then, Schoop blasted his fifth homer of the season over the left field wall to tie the game at 2-2. Schoop has the fourth longest active hit streak in the South Atlantic League. The other big hit in the fourth was a two-run flare single into right field by Michael Ohlman.
The Shorebirds added runs in the sixth and eighth innings to built their lead to 7-2. Adam Gaylord hit a sacrifice fly RBI in the sixth inning and Kipp Schutz hit an RBI single to right field in the eighth inning.
Tim Berry secured his first win of the season in five innings while Jarret Martin earned his first save of the season in four shutout innings. Berry surrendered just four hits and two runs in five innings. Martin fanned six batters and allowed just one hit over the final four innings.
The Shorebirds bullpen has not allowed a run in 13.2 innings over the last three games.
Schutz, Schoop and Ohlman each had two hits to anchor the Shorebirds offense.
The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers play game three of the series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. RHP Luis Noel is the scheduled starter.
