Worcester Tornadoes News Release
QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--- The Tornadoes took the final series in Canada of the 2009 season two games to one after an 8-4 victory at Stade Municipal on Wednesday night.
Worcester starter Zack Zuercher (3-4) set the Capitales down in order in the first inning but was shaky in the second. A leadoff walk to Eddie Lantigua and a double by Patrick Deschenes was followed by a three run home run from second baseman and former Tornado Alex Nunez. Zuercher settled down after that however, not allowing another run, striking out five along the way en route to his second win in a row.
The Tornadoes picked up their starter in the top of the fourth with five runs, four with two out. Mike MacMillan's second hit of the night, a two run double, was the centerpiece of the big inning. Carlos Sosa and Vinny Pennell also contributed RBI's.
Right-hander Dan Sausville (4-2), making a spot start for the injured Karl Gelinas, received the loss pitching five and two thirds permitting eleven hits and seven runs (six earned). The tandem of Brett Palanski and Mike Joyce followed him, while Zuercher had Nick Conway and Chris Anderson as his support system for four innings.
Worcester begins a four gamer with the Sussex Skyhawks of Augusta, NJ on Thursday evening. Chris Farley (2-1) will be throwing for Worcester; the Sussex starter to be determined.
