
Middleton Goes West to Oakland

DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that the contract of Pensacola Pelicans RHP Kyle Middleton was purchased by the Oakland Athletics. Middleton will report to their Triple A affiliate in Sacramento. The big veteran becomes the 10th player sold to a major league organization since the start of the 2009 season.
Middleton went 5-2 with a 1.75 ERA in 13 starts for Pensacola. He struck out 83 batters and walked only 21 in 87 1/3 innings pitched and had an opponents batting average of .235. Middleton led the league in earned run average, strikeouts and innings pitched and for his tremendous efforts was selected as an all-star for the South Division in the 2009 All-Star Game in Grand Prairie, TX held yesterday.
The Pensacola native was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 1999 draft. Middleton pitched seven seasons in the Royals organization before joining the Houston Astros system in 2007.
