Five Hurricanes on NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Players to Watch List

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Wednesday that Miguel Marques, Landen Ward, Tristen Doyle, Trae Wilke and Harrison Meneghin have all been named to the National Hockey League's Central Scouting Preliminary Players to Watch List for the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Marques, 17, was ranked as a 'C' skater. The Prince George, BC, product was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the first-round (10th overall) in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. He has appeared in 13 games this season with the Hurricanes totaling 13 points (4g-9a) along with 14 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating. The 5 '11, 172-pound forward leads the team in scoring. Marques has appeared in 82 career regular season games collecting 89 points (14g-25a) along with 51 penalty minutes after recording 20 points (8g-12a) and 35 penalty minutes in 59 games last year while adding one assist in four post-season games.

Ward, 17, was also ranked a 'C' skater by Central Scouting. The 6'3, 205-pound forward has registered four points (2g- 2a) along with a team-high 25 penalty minutes in 13 regular season games this season. The Lloydminster, AB, product appeared in one game last season as an affiliate. The fourth-round (83rd overall) draft pick in the 2021 WHL Draft is the son of former NHLer Lance Ward.

Doyle, 17, was appointed a 'W' rating on the Preliminary Players to Watch List. The Bonnyville, AB, product was originally picked in the first-round (17th overall) in the 2021 WHL Draft. He has appeared in 13 games this season with the Hurricanes collecting four assists with six penalty minutes. Doyle recorded 10 points (4g-6a) with 16 penalty minutes and plus-2 rating in 58 regular season games last year while going pointless in four playoff games. The defenceman has skated in 75 career games potting 15 points (5g-10a) with the Hurricanes.

Wilke, 17, was also ranked as a 'W' skater. The former second-round (29th overall) draft pick by the Hurricanes in the 2021 WHL Draft has appeared in 13 games in 2023-2024 collecting eight points (4g-4a) with eight penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating. The Saskatoon, SK, product had totaled 16 points (7g-9a) with 24 penalty minutes in 49 career regular season games. Wilke has also appeared in three career post-season games.

Meneghin, 19, was also rated a 'W' skater by Central Scouting. The 6'3, 170-pound goaltender has posted a 7-3-1-0 record in 11 starts this season with the Hurricanes posting a 2.04 goals against average and a .937 save percentage with one shutout. The South Surrey, BC, product finished his 2022-2023 rookie campaign as a Central Division second-team all-star with a 19-12-2-2 record and a 2.83 GAA with a .908 SV%. Meneghin attended the Minnesota Wild 's summer development camp while also attending their Rookie Camp in September.

NHL Central Scouting identifies players with a rating system that includes five categories. The 'A' category indicates players projected to be first-round candidates. The 'B' rating indicates players projected to be second- or third-round candidates, and the 'C' rating indicates players projected to be fourth- or fifth-round candidates. New this year, NHL Central Scouting introduced a 'W' rating, which indicates players projected to be sixth- or seventh-round candidates while the 'LV' rating represents players who have not had sufficient viewings due to injury.

The 2024 NHL Entry Draft will take place in June, 2024.
