Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild, proud members of the Western Hockey League (WHL), are excited to announce that 2006-born forward Miles Cooper has been recognized by National Hockey League Central Scouting as part of its preliminary Players to Watch list for the 2024 NHL Draft. NHL Central Scouting announced its preliminary list earlier Wednesday.
Cooper was recognized as a "C" rated player, with NHL Central Scouting projecting him as a fourth- or fifth-round selection in the draft this coming summer. NHL Central Scouting identifies players with a five-tier rating system - "A" rated players are projected to be candidates for a first-round draft selection this coming summer, followed by a "B" rating for projected second- and third-round selections. New this year is a "W" rating for players who are projected to be sixth- or seventh-round selection, as well as an "LV" rating for players who have had limited viewing opportunities for scouts due to injury.
The Calgary, Alberta native has impressed NHL scouts and Wenatchee fans in his first full WHL season, playing in all 13 Wild games thus far and posting 11 points. He opened the season with points in four of his first five games, including three assists in an opening-night win against the Portland Winterhawks. After being selected by the Winnipeg ICE in the third round of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, he saw limited time for the ICE in 2022-23, picking up a goal in eight regular-season games and making two appearances in the WHL playoffs.
A total of 63 WHL players were chosen to the preliminary NHL Central Scouting list, including 31 who received a "C" rating or above.
Wenatchee returns to action Friday at the Everett Silvertips, and the Wild are back on home ice on Saturday for HOWL-oween against the Kelowna Rockets, presented by the Kenady Group. Tickets for that game and all Wenatchee Wild home regular-season contests are on sale now at 509-888-7825, or by visiting the team office at Town Toyota Center. Updated news and information on Wild hockey are always available through the team's website and on the team's social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
