Omaha Lancers News Release

The Omaha Lancers scored five goals and engaged in five fights Saturday evening dropping the Sioux Falls Stampede 5-2 in front of 4,231 fans at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers improved to 38-12-6 on the year and continue to lead all West Division teams with 82 standings points. The Lancers lead second place Fargo by 5 standings points with four regular season games remaining. Omaha has now gone 9-0-3 over its last 12 games collecting 21 of a possible 24 standings points during that stretch.

Omaha grabbed the game's opening marker just over two minutes into the game when Seth Ambroz got free on the right wing in sending home his 22nd goal of the season. CJ Ludwig grabbed the only assist on the even strength tally, which was Omaha's league-leading 39th first goal of the season. The Lancers wasted little time doubling the lead as just 2:22 later Omaha took a 2-0 lead when Stefan Demopoulos won a goal line scramble in backhanding in his 9th goal of the season and second in as many games. Tom Craig and Ryan Daugherty assisted on the five-on-five marker scored 4:35 into the period. Sioux Falls cut the deficit in half with less than five minutes left in the period when Chad Ruhwedel's slap shot from the right point crept under the left elbow of Omaha's goal for the defenseman's 5th goal of the season. Michael Voran and Matt Lindblad garnered assists on the man advantage tally scored 15:29 into the period.

The Stampede evened the contest early in the second period when Conor Allen's pass from the left point redirected off the skate of Matt Lindblad and into the back of the Lancers' net. Mark Anthoine grabbed the secondary assist on Lindblad's 22nd goal of the season and his team-leading 13th power play marker this season. Omaha's power play answered back though and registered three consecutive man advantage markers before the close of the second period sealing the 5-2 win. First, Dakota Eveland's wrist shot from the right point changed direction off a Sioux Falls leg en route before sliding past Stampede goaltender Clay Witt. Justin Holl and Tom Craig assisted on Eveland's 20th goal of the season, which proved to be his team-leading 9th game-winning goal this year. Then, Omaha opened up a 4-2 lead when Greg Wolfe tapped in a back-door goal off a beautiful cross-ice feed from Erik Haula. White garnered the secondary assist on Wolfe's 21st goal of the season. Finally, the Lancers capped the scoring 16:32 into the middle frame when Troy Power punched home his 25th goal of the season with a bulls-eye of a wrist shot from the slot. Nick Oddo snapped a 15-game scoring drought with the primary assist on the goal while Holl grabbed his second point of the game with the other assist.

Even though the third period didn't feature any scoring, it did provide plenty of fireworks as the Lancers and Stampede engaged in four separate fights in the opening two minutes of the frame. All tolled, Omaha and Sioux Falls combined for 49 penalties and 200 penalty minutes.

Jeff Teglia earned the victory in goal for Omaha after 27 saves on 29 Stampede shots. With the win, Teglia improved to 27-10-5 on the year. Witt suffered the loss in net for Sioux Falls after recording just 26 saves on 31 Omaha shots on goal.

The Lancers are back in action next Friday evening when they welcome the Tri-City Storm to the Omaha Civic Auditorium for a 7:05 PM opening face off.
